규제 개요
EU POPs (Persistent Organic Pollutants, 2019/1021)는 스톡홀름협약(Stockholm Convention)에 근거해 마련된 규제로, 잔류성유기오염물질의 사용 금지, 제한, 배출 감소, 폐기물 처리 등의 사항을 포함합니다.
잔류성유기오염물질(POPs, Persistent Organic Pollutants)은 환경에 방출되면 축적되어 생태계 및 인체에 심각한 피해를 줄 수 있는 물질을 말합니다
POPs로 분류되는 화학물질에는 다음이 포함됩니다.
살충제 (예: DDT)
산업화학물질 (예: PCBs - polychlorinated biphenyls)
공장, 분해 또는 연소 과정에서 형성되는 의도치 않은 부산물 (예: 다이옥신 및 푸란)
